Magnesium Rich snacks and what all they bring

Image
LOTS of praise for chia seeds, pepitas, and cacao. Also cashews, apricots, tahini. Stuff I eat all the time. Who does NOT need excuses to eat more high quality chocolate?

Five Snacks for joint relief

Image
roast chickpeas with a couple recipes cacao / dark chocolate 70% cacao) pepitas (pumpkin seeds) edamame (Everyone recommends. RantWoman is unenthusiastic but has become more interested in tofu!) blueberries! Note tips about interactions of some foods with medication.

Exercises to avoid with osteoporosis

Image
#osteoporosis #CompressionFracture  Standard disclaimer: consult a physical therapist or certified trainer to decide about options and learn proper technique. Standard RantWoman observation: are the spoken instructions enough that someone can understand them without the video. This video is a solid maybe with more emphasis on the "work this the right way" than on the "don't do this if." But readers' mileage will vary.

MAGNESIUM minus a grandmother

Image
The only grandmother food RantWoman remembers is home-canned tomato juice. Yikes, but RantWoman can definitely see why it was total comfort food for RantMom  RantMom baked mainly whole wheat bread; the point about getting rid of the bran loomed large and good fresh home baked whole wheat bread still thrills RantWoman. As for mixing molasses with milk, um.... RantWoman already eats a lot of the items listed here. RantWoman keyed in hard to the connection between potassium and eased leg cramps. RantWoman is still recovering from a spell of leg cramps while no matter what RantWoman did, bananas did not register on her Amazon order. RantWoman finally did plan be which resulted in a bunch of EIGHT bananas at the perfect stage of greenness. They won't last 8 days but somehow RantWoman's body is happy to replenish. Other than that, since part of the point of this blog is to talk ups and downs of exercise, today's observations. RantWoman decided not to work the heaviest resistance ...

Prunes. Prunes. Prunes

Image
#Osteoporosis #Osteopenia #BoneHealth #Calcium  RantWoman totally wants what appears to be solid science about prunes.  Also, for RantWoman, prunes are like some other fruit: dried is great. Fresh just rots in the fridge.

Cats reduce risk of heart attack. Dogs reduce risk of dementia

Both of the claims in the title fall in the "needs more research" zon. But they are both fun to think  about!

Nobody wants your stuff?

Image
RantWoman has lived in the same apartment for 20+ years. That is plenty of time for STUFF to accumulate. RantWoman is determined to get rid of at least1/3 of the crap currently in her apartment.  RantWoman is unclear that this video is going to be her go-to reference. RantWoman is enlisting a couple people to help cope with all the ghosts that will rattle back to memory. Also needed: help with better eyes to help decide which piles of paper to purge and which need to be kept. Should be FUN

Upper body work with resistance bands

Image
Any benefit to doing while sitting? RantWoman sits a lot on Zoom and probably can work some exercises like these into her routine--OFF CAMERA Random other notes about exercises. For a bunch of reasons, RantWoman mostly means to mix in exercises throughout her day. If RantWoman does exercises all at once, she will just collapse. If she spaces different ones throughout the day, RantWoman will keep the metabolism slightly revved for more of the day and benefit from an exercise energy pickup. Here's hoping anyway. Today it dawned on RantWoman that it would make sense to tackle her leg exercises differently for a while. RantWoman has not been hitting the suggested targets of 2 sets of 20 reps at a time one a bunch of exercises to be done 3 times a week. RantWoman really does not have time to do that for all exercises on every cycle.  BUT if RantWoman trades off, doing some exercises one day and some another day, RantWoman can build endurance AND manage time. RantWoman will also be...

Go for a walk or wash dishes or ...after dinner because

Image
RantWoman notes a general recommendation to be cautious about spikes in blood sugar and really likes this video for description of one physiological subtlety. PLUS washing the dishes after a meal is really sensible sanitation practice especially if one wants to avoid the kinds of uninvited guests who refuse to pay rent.

PROTEIN for Bones!

Image
#Osteoporosis  RantWoman is a big fan of Talking With Docs. Also this video is short and too the point. As an aside, RantWoman has not seen a lot of YouTubes about keeping calcium in bones and NOT getting it deposited around the heart or in arteries.

Journey Map with sausage burrito and oatmeal

Image
RantWoman took the picture because of the orange daisies! Composition? What's that?  Agenda: RantWoman woke up earlier than intended. At least this meant there was time for RantWoman's resistance band leg exercises. (Debate about jacket. Decide No because weather is supposed to be warm later.) Breakfast: out of house because of schedule and no prepared oatmeal servings. Simplest option: McDonalds. Walking route sidewalks are clear. There appear to be lots of cars where people are probably sleeping but the sidewalk is entirely passable--UNTIL RantWoman encountered several people panhandling. RantWoman was not up to buying breakfast for anyone but herself but RantWoman got one person $1 closer to a meal. New likely breakfast fave: two sausage burritos, no meal just the burritos, and oatmeal. Great bus moment: people just hanging out at the bus stop. Lots of people with lots of #bikeshare vehicles. RantWoman wanted to stay upwind of any cigarette or other fumes but did not really ...

Medicare Advantage plans changes upcoming: vision and hearing aid coverage!

Image
#HearingLoss Memo to self: MUST get hearing tested before Medicare stops paying for hearing aids. RantWoman knows one ear works A LOT better than the other. RantWoman has great difficulty hearing people across the room and does much better up close enough for her better ear to catch sound. RantWoman has real problems at in-person meetings when other people can barely use microphones well enough for RantWoman to be heard. With virtual or hybrid meetings, RantWoman a lot of the time uses automated captioning. This is visually exhausting; RantWoman tends to enlarge the fonts but that also impinges on RantWoman's already limited ability to interact with faces. Also note to self: a friend GAVE RantWoman a pair of air pods. Between figuring out how to use them and seeing what other amplification apps are out there, there should be OPTIONS. Stay tuned.  One more memo to self: hearing loops in meeting venues? Meanwhile, read up because dropping Medicare coverage of hearing aids as well oth...

Morning Stiffness?

Image
#Arthritis #sleep  RantWoman is shamelessly collecting YouTube channels and specific videos she fines useful RantWoman is still figuring out how to tag. silly suggestions acknowledged "Get up and get moving." "Keep moving throughout the day."

Two, count them two sets of compression bands

Image
#Arthritis #RetailTherapy Two boxes of resistance bands  RantWoman, WHY did you buy two boxes of resistance bands instead of just one? Minimum Amazon order for free delivery? Desire to keep getting sucked into the easy of filling one's space with STUFF? No actual clue about some nuances of resistance band work? Desire to always have something to carry along for periodic 10 minute workouts? RantWoman has been discharged from physical therapy for knee arthritis. The exercises have helped A LOT. RantWoman's knees bend much better. RantWoman still sometimes has trouble about her right ankle when getting in and out of the back seats of cars. RantWoman also has a sense both of needing to keep up the routines and to keep building endurance and stronger resistance. Right now, RantWoman always feels energized after mix and match run-throughs of the whole recommended routine. RantWoman also suspects it will be easy at some point to get bored. Considering all of that RantWoman is also wor...

Highly Intelligent Women?

Could this be RANTWOMAN?

To climb stairs more easily

Image
Do #stairs more easily and work on #balance definitely RantWoman goals and this video has some moves that seem really useful. #Knee related therapy seems to be really helping. Today the elevator is down and RantWoman was able to go down stairs with both knees working. I still needed both railings, but no knee pain is a big thing. Neighbor in wheelchair who can't go up suggested RantWoman NOT offer to go fetch things for her.
